The information below is an overview of our Non-West Virginia Resident & International, first-year and transfer student scholarships.

The above awards are renewable for up to 4 years. First time freshmen and transfer students with less than 30 credit hours must have at least a 3.0 gpa in the college level courses. GED recipients should have at least a combined score of 3100 (620 average), to be considered for freshmen scholarships. Students must meet the following renewal criteria: Minimum of 30 completed credit hours per academic year (including summer term), and a 2.75 overall GPA.

STEM Non-West Virginia Resident & International 1st-Year Student Scholarship
- Annual Award Program: $8,500
- HS GPA: 3.0 or higher
- ACT 24/SAT 1160 (1110 OLD)*
The award is available to non-WV resident and international first-year students who major in one of the approved STEM programs. The award is renewable based on the student’s continuing status as a STEM major, with a minimum of 30 completed credit hours per academic year (including summer term), and a 2.75 overall GPA. The award is renewable for up to 4 years. Students are not eligible to receive both the STEM and the Non-WV Resident, First-Year Scholarship.

Leadership Scholarships
In recognition of outstanding achievement, West Virginia University provides a scholarship to first-time freshmen who have achieved the highest levels of honor or leadership within certain nationally acclaimed organizations.
Incoming freshmen who have a high school GPA of at least 3.0 and an ACT composite of at least 21 or combined new SAT of 1070 (Evidence-Based Reading & Writing score and Math score only) or old SAT 990 (Critical Reading score and Math score only) will be awarded a $500 scholarship annually for up to four academic years or completion of a bachelor's degree (whichever comes first). This award can total up to $2,000 over the course of the student's education. Please note that the SAT score has been adjusted to reflect test results from the new SAT test, first given in March 2016.
Student must remain enrolled as a full-time undergraduate.
Eligible students must submit verification of status attainment from one of the organizations outlined below (i.e. certificate or letter of proof) to the Mountaineer Hub. The information may be scanned and submitted online or faxed to 304.293.4890. Please include the student name, WVU ID number and date of birth with the information sent. The deadline for consideration is August 1 for the upcoming academic year.
This award will usually be in addition to any other scholarship.
Students may renew the scholarship for future academic years by maintaining a minimum overall GPA of 2.75 and earning at least 30 credit hours each academic year. Students must also maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress for financial aid eligibility.

STEM Non-West Virginia Resident & International Transfer Student Scholarship
- Annual Award Program: $8,500
- College GPA: 3.0 or higher for students with 24 or more college level credit hours
The award is available to non-WV resident and international transfer students who major in one of the approved STEM programs. The award is renewable for 2-years based on the student’s continuing status as a STEM major, with a minimum of 30 completed credit hours per academic year (including summer term), and a 2.75 overall GPA.
Scholarship Details
All WVU Tech academic scholarships are tuition, programmatic fee, housing and meal plan specific. The ACT score considered is the composite score and SAT score counts for critical reading and mathematics. Scholarship funds will not be applied towards books or other fees. Full-time, degree-seeking students can only receive one institutional academic scholarship.
Student eligibility will be re-checked with information on the final transcript, and scholarship offers may be rescinded if requirements are no longer met.
Non-degree, readmit and second degree-seeking students are not eligible for scholarships. Students in regent’s bachelor of arts programs and certificate programs do not qualify for awards.

STEM Non-Resident Scholarships
Non-resident and international students may be eligible for the STEM Non-Resident Scholarship if they are admitted to the University and are a major in one of the following approved programs:
- Aerospace Engineering (Scholarship could apply for up to two years while you study at WVU Tech before transferring to WVU Morgantown to complete your Aerospace Engineering degree.)
